| Dec 25, 2025.The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport Ranger District is open for snowmobiling. Permits are required for each person/snowmobile entering the BWRA. They are free and can be obtained online at https://www.bridgeportavalanchecenter.org/ . Self-issued permits are also available at the People’s Gate kiosk. When venturing into backcountry areas with potential avalanche risks, always be prepared with essential safety gear like an avalanche beacon, probe, shovel, and an airbag system, alongside winter survival gear. Also, never travel alone, or rely on cell phones, which may be unreliable in remote locations. A satellite device would be a better communication option (e.g., a satellite phone or SPOT device).
