The Bridgeport Avalanche Center is still a few weeks away from starting up for the season, but mother nature is delivering an early season storm that warrants a reminder for avalanche safety. A substantial storm will bring feet of snow and extreme winds to the area. Fresh snow and substantial wind speeds are the classic recipe for wind slabs to form. Watch for blowing snow and areas where windblown snow is deposited throughout the terrain. Thin coverage poses a risk in itself, watch out for rocks, logs and other hazards that may be lurking below any new snow.
